Introduction

The scope of higher education is rapidly expanding. Responding positively to these challenges, Holy Cross College Of Nursing, Kottiyam is committed to transform higher education by establishing IQAC at the college level. The Quality Assurance body operates at the college level with a special responsibility to ensure good practices. Holy Cross College Of Nursing Program Management has its own set of rules and regulations. IQAC is set to be an indispensable first step in the development of Holy Cross College Of Nursing internal quality assurance system. All five departments comply with IQAC policy guidelines.

Holy Cross College of Nursing, Kottiyam was established in the year 2003. Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the institution(IQAC) came into existence on 2nd January 2024. The IQAC Plans, Guides and Monitors Quality Assurance(QA) and Quality Enhancement (QE) activities of the Institution.

The Primary Aim of IQAC

  1. To develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the
    academic and administrative performance of the institution.
  2. To promote measures for institutional functioning towards quality enhancement through
    internalization of quality culture and institutionalization of best practices.

IQAC-Vision

To ensure quality culture as the prime concern for the higher educational institutions through institutionalizing and internalizing all the initiatives taken with internal and external support.

Objectives

  1. To develop mechanisms and procedures for quality enhancement in academic and
    administrative performance

    quality improvement.
  3. To be a nodal agency for coordinating and documenting all quality related activities
  4. To enhance the satisfaction of all the stakeholders associated with the institution
  5. To promote measures for development of Quality culture in the institution.

Terms of Reference

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell will be known as IQAC. IQAC will be a vital part of the institution’s quality assurance system and work towards ensuring quality enhancement and sustenance. Meeting will be conducted at the last week of every month

Strategies of IQAC

IQAC shall evolve mechanisms and procedures for 

  1. Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and
    financial tasks.
  2. Relevant and quality academic/ research programmes.
  3. Equitable access to and affordability of academic programmes for various sections of
    society.
  4. Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning.
  5. The credibility of assessment and evaluation process.
  6. Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and proper allocation of support structure and
    services.
  7. Sharing of research findings and networking with other institutions in India and abroad.

Functions of IQAC

  1. Development and application of quality benchmarks.
  2. Developing a system that provides a catalytic action to improve the academic performance
    and administrative enhancement of the institution.
  3. Facilitating the creation of a learner-centric environment conducive to quality education and faculty maturation to adopt the required knowledge and technology for participatory teaching and learning process.
  4. Promoting measures for institutional functioning towards quality improvement through quality control and best practices.
  5. Collection and analysis of feedback from all stakeholders on quality-related institutional processes.
  6. Dissemination of information on various quality parameters to all stakeholders.
  7. Organization of inter institutional and intra institutional workshops, seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles.
  8. Documentation of the various programmes/activities leading to quality improvement.
  9. Conducting research activities that helps to improve the quality measures of the institution.
  10. Acting as a nodal agency of the institution for coordinating quality-related activities, including adoption and dissemination of best practices.
  11. Development and maintenance of institutional database through Management Institutional System for the purpose of maintaining /enhancing the institutional quality.
  12. Periodical conduct of academic and administrative audit and its follow-up.
  13. Preparation and submission of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) as per
    guidelines.

ROLES/ DUTIES OF MAIN STAKEHOLDERS

The Role of The Coordinator

The role of the coordinator of the IQAC is crucial in ensuring the effective functioning of all the members. The coordinator of the IQAC may be a senior/competent person with experience and exposure in quality aspects. She/he may be a full-time functionary or, to start with, she/he may be a senior academic /administrator entrusted with the IQAC as an additional responsibility. Secretarial assistance may be facilitated by the administration. It is essential that the coordinator may have sound knowledge about the computer, data management and its various functions such as usage for effective communication.

 

Students

  1. Students are required to participate in quality assurance processes, including evaluation, accreditation and even in the council board discussion.
  2. Students should actively participate in building quality education.
  3. Students must play a major role in decision making processes related to educational quality policies, course curriculum and teaching learning process.
  4. Students must provide feedback about teaching, their courses and programmes directly to the course coordinator or programme coordinator.

 

Alumni

  1. The alumni have to maintain good relationship with the institution through communicating regularly with email or other social media.
  2. They can act as mentors for the current students to offer career guidance and opportunities.
  3. They can help in the growth of their institution through word-of-mouth marketing.

 

Faculty

  1. Faculty should follow the rules and regulations of the institution.
  2. They are responsible for the planning and implementation of teaching programmes and assisting in general administration.
  3. They must keep abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
  4. They should advice the students on academic and vocational curricula and career issues.
  5. They must coordinate training programmes with universities, clinics, hospitals and health agencies.
